Privacy Policy

Overview

Dusk is a native Plex client for Apple platforms. Your privacy is fundamental to how the app is built. Dusk does not track you: there are no advertising identifiers, no third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, no profiles, and nothing about you is ever shared with or sold to anyone.

Dusk does send a small number of anonymous events, including error reports, to our own server, so we can tell that things are working. You can turn it off in Settings.

Data stored on your device

Dusk stores a small amount of data locally on your device to function. None of this data ever leaves your device or is sent to us.

• Plex authentication token — stored securely in the iOS Keychain. Used to authenticate with your Plex server. You can remove it at any time by signing out.
• Client identifier — a randomly generated UUID created on first launch. Used by Plex to identify your device as a player. It contains no personally identifiable information.
• User preferences — your settings (subtitle language, audio language, playback preferences, appearance) are stored in UserDefaults on your device.
• Image cache — poster artwork and backdrops fetched from your Plex server are cached locally for performance. This cache can be cleared by deleting the app.
• Reporting identifier — a randomly generated string used only to avoid counting the same device twice in the anonymous events described below. Deleting the app, or turning reporting off in Settings, discards it.

Network communication

Dusk communicates exclusively with:

• plex.tv — for authentication and server discovery. This is Plex's own service, governed by Plex's Privacy Policy.
• Your Plex Media Server — to browse your library, stream media, and sync playback progress. This is your own server, on your own network or infrastructure.
• Apple's App Store — only for the optional supporter purchases described below, handled on-device by Apple's StoreKit and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
• Apple's SharePlay (Group Activities) — only while you are in a watch-together session you started or joined. Apple relays the session data described below between participants, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
• Our own analytics server — for the anonymous events described below, when reporting is left enabled. It is our own infrastructure; no third-party analytics service is involved.

Dusk does not communicate with any other servers, APIs, or services.

In-app purchases

Dusk offers optional supporter purchases — one-time tips and a supporter subscription. Payments are processed entirely by Apple; Dusk never sees your name, payment details, or billing information. The app reads your purchase history on-device via Apple's StoreKit, solely to unlock supporter perks and remember your supporter status.

If reporting is enabled, Dusk records that a purchase completed and which product it was, with no payment information attached — enough to know the supporter screen works at all, and nothing more.

SharePlay (watch together)

SharePlay is optional and only runs while you explicitly start or join a watch-together session during a FaceTime call. When it is off, nothing described here happens.

SharePlay is not screen sharing. Dusk does not send video to the other participants: every device plays the video from the Plex server itself. While a session is active, Dusk shares only:

• Which item the group is watching — the identifier of the hosting Plex server and of the item on it, plus its title and subtitle, so each participant's app can find the same video in their own library.
• Playback timing — play, pause, and position, so everyone stays in sync.

Your Plex token, playback URLs, account details, and anything else about your library are never shared. Participants can only play the video if their own Plex account already has access to that server; SharePlay grants no access they would not otherwise have. Each participant's quality, subtitles, audio track, and watch history stay their own.

Analytics and tracking

Dusk does not track you. There are no advertising identifiers, no third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, no cross-app or cross-site tracking, no profiles, and no data is ever shared with or sold to anyone.

Dusk and this website send a small number of anonymous events, including error reports, to our own self-hosted analytics server. This helps us ensure consistency and quality control, and make the experience better for everyone. You can turn this off in Settings.

Events carry a random identifier generated on your device, so that one device opening the app on five days isn't counted as five devices. It isn't derived from your device, your Apple ID, or your Plex account. Turning reporting off discards it.

Nothing about your library, your Plex server, what you watch, or what you search for is ever included. No cookies, and no IP addresses are stored.

Third-party code

Dusk uses one third-party library:

• VLCKit — an open-source media playback framework (LGPL). It runs entirely on-device to decode video and audio. It does not collect or transmit any data.

Children's privacy

Dusk collects no personal data from anyone, including children. The anonymous event counts described above contain nothing that identifies a person of any age, and can be turned off in Settings. The app requires a Plex account, which is managed entirely by Plex.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a revised date. Since Dusk collects no personal data, meaningful changes are unlikely.
